The Best Cure for Cold Sores | An Orajel for Cold Sores Review

*Disclaimer: I received this product complimentary from Smiley360 to test.  All opinions are my own.*

I’ve been dealing with cold sores since I was five. Plain and simple, cold sores suck. They are ugly, embarrassing, sometimes painful and/or itchy, and are incredibly helpful in destroying your self-esteem and confidence for at least a week.

When I was growing up, I would get at least two cold sores a year. Mostly during the winter months. I would treat it with rubbing alcohol and petroleum jelly. I would also take Zinc and Calcium everyday until it disappeared. Cold sores are so wonderful when you are a teenage girl. (note the dripping sarcasm)

As I’ve gotten older, cold sore appearances have been rare, thankfully. When I get a cold sore now, it usually means that I’m about to get very sick. (As was the case when I got strep throat two times in a row, in a span of two months.) I might also get one after being extremely sick or under times of major stress. (For example last summer when I was dealing with getting over being sick and planning on attending a family trip the very next week.) When this happens, I usually have about a week of dealing with the cold sore. Yay.

We are in the midst of the holiday season. Talk about stress. Now is not the time to be dealing with a cold sore. We have parties to attend, time to spend with our families, and people will be documenting it all on video or in pictures.

In October, I joined Smiley360. It’s a great website that sends you products to test out in exchange for your honest reviews. Sounds great, right? After joining, I filled out some information about myself and took a survey. I qualified to receive Orajel for Cold Sores. Now, I was excited to receive a free product, but also secretly hoping that I wouldn’t get a cold sore. My hope was to pass it along to a family member to try out. Who wants to get a cold sore?

Well, as luck would have it, I recently felt that familiar tingle. You know it. The one where you rush into the bathroom to look in the mirror, check out your face, and spend the rest of the day either in denial, or hoping and wishing that you are simply imagining it. After about two hours of both, I remembered that I had the Orajel for Cold Sores product hanging out in my medicine cabinet. I decided now was the best time to test it out.

In the package, you get four treatment vials. The vial is a plastic tube with clear liquid inside and a little white sponge applicator on the end. There is paper wrapping around half of the tube. The instructions were simple: Remove the paper wrapping and slide it on the other end of the tube. Squeeze the vial firmly, at the arrow, until it pops, allow the liquid to saturate the white sponge applicator and press it gently on your cold sore.

After a few seconds, the spot on my lip was numb. No more tingling. I put the rest of the liquid on the area and relaxed on the couch. That evening, it was about eight hours later, I used a second treatment. The next day: no tingling, no swelling, no cold sore! Needless to say, I was extremely happy!

Now here’s the deal. I am very happy with the results of using this product. However, it is important to note that I used it at the first sign of a cold sore. If you can catch it right away, I think using this product can help prevent the cold sore from appearing. I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

Endless Summer Voxbox Review

Endless Summer Voxbox

Summer is my favorite season. I love the sunshine! I love the warm temps! I love beach days! So receiving the Endless Summer Voxbox from Influenster was absolutely perfect. It was filled with amazing goodies to make summer last just a little bit longer.

I’ve spent three weeks testing out these products. Here are my thoughts.

MaxFactor X MasterpieceMax High Volume + Definition Mascara – Velvet Black

Retail price: $9.99

This mascara is great for defining lashes. It made my lashes smooth and sleek and really made my blue eyes pop!  However, I was a little disappointed because it didn’t give me the volume I was looking for. I would recommend this mascara to anyone who wants to define their lashes and make their eyes pop.

Overall I give this mascara 4 stars out of 5.

Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Eyeliner – Velvet Black

Retail price: $9.99

This product is the best liquid eyeliner I’ve ever used! The pen and shape of the tip make it easy to create multiple looks. It is long lasting and doesn’t wear off. I love creating a cat eye glam look with this pen. I had so much fun playing with looks and this pen made it incredibly simple and gave me a lot of control. I highly recommend this product!

Overall I give this eyeliner 5 stars out of 5.

Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Leave-In Conditioner

Retail price: $3.50 for 2oz.  $9.00 for 6oz.

My hair is long, thick and tangles easily. I also dye my hair red and it tends to be pretty dry. After using this leave-in conditioner for just a week, my hair was noticeably softer. Also, for the first time in a long time, I could comb through my hair after washing it – no tangles – and a dramatic decrease in the amount of hair that I would ultimately end up pulling out. As for the growth factor, my hair is already long and it grows fast on its own, so I didn’t notice any difference there. However, I would definitely recommend this product, especially for you ladies with long hair!

Overall I give this leave-in conditioner 5 stars out of 5.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and Seche Premier Colour – Intrepid

Top coat retail price: $1.99                   Lacquer retail price: $9.99                   Available exclusively at Sally Beauty.

The top coat is pretty great! It added a pretty shine to my nails and dried within two minutes of application. It helped protect my color and helped it last longer. (I got five days out of my at home, did it myself manicure.)

The nail lacquer is exquisite! The color is beautiful and rich. The lacquer glides on the nails smoothly. One coat is all you need for a gorgeous color! I used two coats for a more intense color.

I work out a lot and I am constantly busy around the house. Normally, polish lasts on my fingernails for only a day or two. This lacquer lasted four days with no chips or cracks! . That is pretty amazing for an at home manicure!

This was my favorite product in the Endless Summer Voxbox!

Overall I give these products 5 stars out of 5.

The perfect color for summer!

Iron-Tek Essential Protein – Everyday – Vanilla

Retail price: $44.99 (30 servings)

I really love this protein! It was easy to mix into a shake, I didn’t need a blender! I made a peanut butter shake with this sample and shared it with my husband. We both really liked it! It’s a light protein, non-GMO, and is made from grass fed cows – no extra hormones! It’s perfect for everyday use and will compliment any fitness regimen and healthy diet.

Overall I give this protein 5 stars out of 5.

Numi Organic Turmeric, Jasmine Green, and Pu-erh Teas

Retail price: $7.49-$8.99 (12-18 count box)

Ginger Pu-erh

This sample was my favorite! It tastes like a black tea. The ginger is subtle, not overwhelming. While drinking it, I noticed the caffeine boost. I felt energetic and ready to accomplish my to do list!

Jasmine Green

This sample was delicious! It had a green tea taste with a hint of a flowery note. It was a great pick me up in the later afternoon, gave me a small boost of energy, and helped me focus on my writing.

Turmeric Tea Fields of Gold

I thought this was pretty good. The Turmeric Tea Fields of Gold is caffeine free. It has a subtle, pleasant flavor, with hints of lemon and chamomile. It is a very calming tea.

Numi Organic Tea is a great brand that strives to make a positive impact on the environment and works with people from around the world.

Overall I give these teas 5 stars out of 5.

That is everything that was in the Endless Summer Voxbox. I loved testing out all of these products! Have you tried any of these? Did you receive this Voxbox? Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts. 🙂

Gillette Venus Sensitive Razor and Shave Gel Review

I recently received a three pack of Gillette Venus Sensitive Disposable Razors and a can of the Gillette Satin Care Ultra Sensitive Shave Gel complimentary to test and review.

My first BzzAgent campaign – Gillette Sensitive kit.

A little background..

In the past, I have favored the close shave of a five bladed men’s razor with the assistance of a generic shave cream. I am not picky, I just want something that is inexpensive and works well. With that said, I went into this campaign with an open mind and willingness to really test the product. Gillette is a good brand with good products. They have fun, catchy commercials. (“I’m your Venus, I’m your fire, your desire..”) I have used their products in the past, so I was a little excited about trying these products.

First Impressions..

Getting ready to test the products.

I have sensitive skin and it seems to get more temperamental as I get older. I have to really watch what products I am using and pay close attention to anything scented. I am prone to beautiful red splotches otherwise.

I’ll start with the Gillette Satin Care Ultra Sensitive shave gel. As I mentioned, I am used to shave cream. The shave gel was a new experience for me. I got in the shower, shook the can, and dispensed what I thought was a reasonable amount for my leg. I ended up with a little too much and used the excess for the other leg. I was incredibly surprised by how luxurious the shave gel was!  It had a slight mint scent that was pleasant, not overwhelming. The shave gel lathered well and as I found out, a little goes a long way. In addition, it left my skin feeling refreshed and as smooth as silk. No adverse reactions. I really like this product!

On to the Gillette Venus Sensitive Disposable Razors. It has three blades surrounded by two moisture strips and a Lubrastrip with a touch of aloe. The razor cut well and glided smoothly on the skin and around hard to shave areas. (Think knees, ankles, bikini area) It cut well and I was nick-free. It left my skin feeling soft, smooth, and silky. The razor is also a pretty pink. This isn’t an important detail and doesn’t affect how the razor works, but it is fun and aesthetically pleasing. I was impressed with this product!

Two and a half weeks later…

Same razor.

I’ve been using these products for two and a half weeks now. I think that is plenty of time to determine how I feel about them.

The shave gel has quickly become one of my favorite products. I love the luxurious experience it provides. The gel leaves my skin feeling fresh, soft, and silky after every shave. It retails at Walmart for around $3. (Click here to view it on Walmart’s website) I highly recommend Gillette Satin Care Ultra Sensitive shave gel.

As for the razors… I have been using the same razor for two and a half weeks! That is impressive, especially considering that this razor only has three blades and is disposable. It is still giving me a close shave. The moisture strips are still fully intact and I haven’t had to throw it away and get a new razor out of the pack. It still glides smoothly and my skin feels soft and silky after shaving. I am really happy with this product and highly recommend it! It is great for an everyday razor and I think it would be perfect for travel! A three pack retails for around $7 at Walmart. (Click here to view it on Walmart’s website.)

Final thoughts…

Overall, I think these are amazing products.

Thank you to Gillette and BzzAgent for allowing me to test them out.
